Face Republic Sleeping Beauty Face Mask Soothing Aloe Extract single pale-green pouch with aloe leaf illustration, 23 ml
Avoid for Sensitivity
What Makes This Different

It is the one pouch in Face Republic's seven-variant line that adds nothing to the shared base: aloe, purslane, allantoin and licorice salt over glycerin, glycols and hyaluronate, in a watery gel with no lipid, no fruit extract and no colourant, which makes it the sheet with the fewest ways to go wrong on reactive, sunburned or retinoid-irritated skin and the natural rescue mask of the range. Its only concession to marketing is the light fragrance every variant carries, and on this pouch that concession matters most.

Face Republic Soothing Aloe Sheet Mask Review

Budget Sheet Mask, Rescue Variant
mask sheet-mask k beauty Paraben Free Cruelty Free Vegan

The plainest pouch in Face Republic's budget line and, for that reason, the most useful: aloe, purslane, allantoin and licorice salt over a humectant stack in a watery gel, with no lipid, no fruit extract, no alcohol and no colourant, so it cools, calms and plumps almost any face for twenty minutes and is the natural rescue mask after sun, a flare or a retinoid night. The faint fragrance left on the face is the one flaw on a sheet aimed at reactive skin, and the brand publishes nothing; at a few dollars a sheet it is the variant to buy in bulk.

This sheet, a Philippine-market staple that reaches Western buyers only through importers, has scattered English-language reviews, no US retail listing and no published testing, so it is assessed from its fully disclosed label, which is the line's shared base with aloe as both headline and foundation, and from the general literature for occlusive hydration, aloe, purslane, allantoin and licorice; the price is an importer range rather than a retail figure, and no ingredient dose is known.

Full Review

This is the pouch that adds nothing, and that is its whole argument. Face Republic's Sleeping Beauty line is one shared base under seven labels, and where the snail sheet adds mucin and two lipids, the lemon adds a citrus extract and the honey adds honey, the aloe sheet adds only the aloe that was already in every one of them; what is left is the base itself, and reviewing it is a way of finding out what the base is worth. It turns out to be worth quite a lot, which is not what a two-dollar pouch from a Philippine drugstore leads anyone to expect.

The base is a small lesson in how to build a cheap soothing mask properly. Glycerin second, butylene and propylene glycol, betaine, sodium PCA and sodium hyaluronate seventh make a humectant stack that twenty minutes under a soaked sheet drives into the surface; aloe fifth and purslane sixth, the Korean soothing staple whose anti-inflammatory chemistry has a small clinical literature including a randomised trial in hand eczema, are backed by allantoin eighth and dipotassium glycyrrhizate, the licorice salt, so the calming claim on the front has three evidence-backed ingredients behind it rather than one picture. There is no denatured alcohol, which is what makes most budget sheets sting and then tighten; no oil, so oily skin can leave the essence on with nothing over it; no colourant; no parabens; and arginine to buffer the pH. The fragrance is the sole concession, faint and green, and the witch hazel is a water rather than the alcohol-heavy extract.

It helps to say what a sheet like this is for, because the category is oversold. A soaked sheet under occlusion does one thing, which is push water into the top of the skin and hold it there for a while, and the value of that depends entirely on when it is done: on a well-hydrated face on a Tuesday it is a pleasant nothing, and on a face that has spent a day in the sun, a night with a retinoid or a week in dry heating it is the difference between going to bed hot and tight and going to bed comfortable. The aloe pouch is built for the second case, and its plainness is what makes it fit, since a rescue mask should carry as little as possible that a stressed barrier might object to.

What the sheet does is exactly what a soothing mask should. Fifteen to twenty cold minutes, colder from the fridge, then a face that is cooler, calmer and plumped, with the redness of a hot day, a sunburn or a retinoid flake visibly settled for the evening and a light, fresh finish that combination and oily skin can leave alone; dry skin will want a cream over it, because a watery gel with no lipid dries down faster than the snail variant, and that is the honest trade of choosing the plainest pouch. On a mild, unbroken sunburn it is one of the better cheap comforts available, and on the evening after a retinoid night it is a better idea than another active; chilled for twenty minutes first, it is also the closest thing to a cold compress that leaves the skin better hydrated than it found it. Nothing accumulates, nothing treats a condition, and nothing needs to; the useful expectation is relief.

The one flaw is the one that matters most on this pouch. A sheet built for reactive skin carries a fragrance, undeclared as to components, left on the face after removal; it is faint, most sensitive faces will not react, and it is still the reason the first use on a flare should be a patch test on the jaw rather than a leap of faith. Witch hazel water is a lesser note for the very reactive, and polysorbate 80 is the note for fungal-acne-prone skin. Beyond those, there is little on the label to object to, which is rarer at this price than it should be.

On cost, two to five dollars a sheet through importers, less in the ten-packs, for a mask most skin can use morning or evening, after sun or after a flare, is the cheap end of the category and the best value in the line, because nothing on this pouch is decoration. The lemon sheet is bought for a scent, the snail for a picture, the honey for a story; the aloe is bought for the base, and the base is the part that works. Anyone assembling a summer stack of cheap masks, or a rescue drawer for reactive skin, should start here and buy in bulk, and anyone who has ever paid five times as much for a sheet that did the same twenty minutes should feel, briefly, a little foolish.

Formula

Key Ingredients

The hero actives that drive this product's performance.

IngredientFunctionEvidence
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract Fifth, and on this pouch both the headline and the base, since aloe already sits in every variant of the line; its polysaccharides hold water and calm a hot, tight or freshly sun-exposed face, and with nothing added on top of it this is the sheet with the fewest ways to go wrong on reactive skin. Established mechanism for Dehydration · measured
Portulaca Oleracea Extract Sixth, purslane, the Korean soothing staple with real anti-inflammatory chemistry and a small clinical literature including a randomised trial in hand eczema; with the aloe ahead of it and allantoin and licorice salt behind, it is the reason this plain sheet earns the word soothing where most budget masks only print it. Not yet assessed
Glycerin Second, leading butylene and propylene glycol, betaine, sodium PCA and sodium hyaluronate, the humectant stack a soaked sheet drives into the surface for twenty minutes; on an aloe pouch with no lipids the result is pure water, a cool, plumped face that dry skin will want a cream over and oily skin will want nothing over at all. Established mechanism for Dehydration · established mechanism
Allantoin Eighth, the skin protectant with a long record for calming abraded and irritated skin, paired here with dipotassium glycyrrhizate, the licorice salt, further down; the two are the evidence-backed half of the soothing claim, quieter on the label than the aloe and doing at least as much. Not yet assessed
Fragrance Last on the label, undeclared as to components, and the single thing that stops a soothing sheet from being the fully safe choice for the reactive skin it is aimed at; low in dose and left on the face, it is the reason to patch-test the plainest mask in the line before trusting it on a flare. Layering Tips

After cleansing and toner, morning or evening, fifteen to twenty minutes with the essence patted in and a light moisturiser over it; it is the pouch in the line to reach for after sun, after a retinoid night or after a flare, when the skin wants water and calm and nothing else, and it can be chilled for a stronger cooling effect.

Results Timeline

A cooled, calmed, plumped face the moment the sheet comes off, with redness and heat visibly settled for the evening; a sunburn or a retinoid flake feels better for a day. Nothing accumulates beyond that, and nothing about a twenty-minute aloe sheet treats a condition; it is the maintenance and rescue mask of the line, and the useful expectation is comfort, not change.

Science & Expert Perspective

The Science

A sheet mask's measurable effect is occlusive hydration: fifteen to twenty minutes under a soaked non-woven sheet limits evaporation and drives humectants into the stratum corneum, raising surface water content for hours, and the cooling of an evaporating water-based essence, stronger when the pouch is chilled, reduces the sensation of heat on inflamed or sun-exposed skin. This mask's humectants, glycerin, butylene glycol, propylene glycol, betaine, sodium PCA and sodium hyaluronate, are all established, and the absence of any lipid in the essence means the hydration is shorter-lived on dry skin than with a lipid-containing sheet.

The soothing claim has more support than most. Aloe barbadensis leaf extract contains acemannan and other polysaccharides with humectant, anti-inflammatory and wound-supportive activity in laboratory and small clinical studies, particularly for mild burns; allantoin is a long-established skin protectant with evidence for calming irritated and abraded skin; dipotassium glycyrrhizate is the anti-inflammatory salt of licorice's glycyrrhizic acid with in-vitro and clinical anti-irritant data; and Portulaca oleracea, purslane, contains omega-3 fatty acids, flavonoids and vitamins with anti-inflammatory activity, a 2024 randomised, placebo-controlled trial in Explore finding it effective for mild to moderate chronic hand eczema and a 2025 Frontiers in Pharmacology study reporting barrier-restoring effects in an atopic dermatitis model. Doses in this mask are undisclosed, and the contact time is twenty minutes, so the expected effect is short-term relief rather than treatment.

The risks are fragrance, the leading cosmetic contact allergen, at low dose but left on the face; witch hazel water as an occasional sensitiser; and polysorbate 80 for fungal-acne-prone skin. The formula contains no alcohol, oil, parabens, colourants or essential oils, which is why its tolerance profile is the best in the line. A sheet mask should not be applied over blistered or broken skin.

Dermatologist Perspective

A cooling, alcohol-free, oil-free sheet with aloe, allantoin, licorice salt and purslane over humectants is close to what clinicians would design as a comfort measure for mild sunburn, post-procedure heat or retinoid irritation, and this one would be regarded as a sensible, cheap option for that purpose with the single reservation that it is fragranced, which matters more on a product aimed at reactive skin than anywhere else; a patch test would be advised for patients with contact allergy or active eczema, and a fragrance-free sheet preferred for them. It would be positioned as relief rather than treatment, not to be used over blistered or broken skin, and, for sunburn, as a reminder that the intervention with evidence is the sunscreen that was missed.

Guidance

Usage & Recommendations

How to Use

Morning or evening after cleansing and toner, open the pouch, unfold the sheet and lay it over the face, pressing it flat around the eyes, nose and mouth; leave it fifteen to twenty minutes, remove it before it dries and pat the leftover essence into the face and neck without rinsing, then apply a moisturiser, or nothing on oily skin. Chill the pouch for a stronger cooling effect after sun or a flare. Use it two or three times a week, patch-test on the jaw before the first use on irritated skin, and never lay it over blistered or broken skin.

Value Assessment

With no US brand store, the sheet sells through importers at roughly two to five dollars depending on seller and pack size, ten-packs at the low end, so a summer habit of two or three masks a week costs somewhere between six and fifteen dollars a week. Because this variant adds nothing to the shared base, none of that money goes to decoration: it buys the humectants, the aloe, the purslane, the allantoin and the licorice salt that do the work in every pouch of the line. That makes it the best value of the seven and one of the best cheap soothing masks available to a Western buyer through importers; the only better spend for very reactive skin is an unscented sheet from a clinical brand at three times the price.

Who Should Buy

Sensitive, reactive, sun-exposed and retinoid-irritated skin of any type that wants a cheap, cooling, calming sheet with the fewest ways to go wrong, oily and combination skin that likes a watery mask it can leave on with nothing over it, and anyone building a summer or rescue stack of masks in bulk; it is the variant to start with in the line.

Who Should Skip

The most fragrance-reactive skin, for which even a faint scent left on the face is a risk, and skin with active eczema or contact allergy until a patch test has passed; fungal-acne-prone skin, because of the polysorbate; anyone with blistered or broken skin; and dry skin that wants a mask with a lasting film, which the snail pouch provides and this one does not.

Background

The Story Behind This Product

Every Korean mass sheet-mask line has an aloe pouch, because aloe is the ingredient the Southeast Asian customer trusts after sun, and Face Republic's Sleeping Beauty line built its shared base around aloe and purslane and then sold the plain version under the aloe leaf. It is the variant Watsons Philippines stocks deepest, the one that sells in the hot months, and the one the K-beauty importers move in ten-packs to Western buyers looking for a cheap calming mask.

About Face Republic Emerging Brand (2–5 years)

Face Republic is a Korean-made brand built for the Philippine and Southeast Asian mass market, selling vegan, minimal-ingredient formulas at low prices through Watsons and the K-beauty importers. The Sleeping Beauty sheet masks are its cheapest line, one shared base with a headline extract per pouch; the aloe variant is the plainest of the seven, and the brand publishes no clinical testing for any of them.

Myth vs. Reality

Common Myths

Myth

An aloe sheet mask heals sunburn.

Reality

It cools, hydrates and calms sunburned skin for an evening, which is a real comfort, and aloe's polysaccharides and the allantoin and licorice salt in the base have anti-irritant evidence; it does not repair the damage or speed the burn's course, and a sheet over a blistering burn is a bad idea. The useful expectation is relief, and sunscreen next time.

Myth

A mask labelled soothing is automatically safe for sensitive skin.

Reality

This one comes close, with no alcohol, oil, colourant or fruit extract, but it carries a fragrance left on the face and witch hazel water, either of which can bother the most reactive skin. A patch test on the jaw before the first use on a flare is the sensible step, after which most sensitive skin finds it the safest sheet in the line.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Face Republic Soothing Aloe Sheet Mask good for sensitive skin?

It is the safest pouch in the line for it: aloe, purslane, allantoin and licorice salt over humectants, with no alcohol, oil, colourant or fruit extract. The one caution is a faint fragrance left on the face, so a patch test on the jaw before the first use on a flare is sensible.

Can the Face Republic aloe sheet mask be used on sunburn?

On a mild, unbroken sunburn, yes, and it is one of the better cheap ways to cool and calm one for an evening, especially chilled; it does not speed healing, and it should not go over blistered or broken skin. Follow it with a plain moisturiser and stay out of the sun.

What is the difference between the Face Republic aloe and cucumber sheet masks?

Almost nothing on the label: both carry the same base, and the cucumber pouch adds a cucumber fruit extract at fifth position for a slightly fresher scent and feel. The aloe pouch is the plainer of the two and the one to choose for the most reactive skin.

How is the Face Republic aloe sheet mask used?

After cleansing and toner, unfold the sheet over the face, press it flat, leave it fifteen to twenty minutes and remove it before it dries, then pat the leftover essence in and follow with a moisturiser. It can be used morning or evening, chilled for extra cooling, two or three times a week.

Is the Face Republic aloe sheet mask vegan and alcohol-free?

Yes to both; it carries no animal-derived ingredients, no denatured alcohol, no oil, no parabens and no colourant, and the brand states it is cruelty-free. The fragrance is the only additive of note.

How much does the Face Republic aloe sheet mask cost?

The brand has no US store; importers sell it by the sheet or in five- and ten-packs at roughly two to five dollars a sheet, which is the cheap end of Korean sheet masks and the reason it is bought in bulk for summer.
