Before there was a brand, there was a decade spent in the export business, shipping Korean skincare around the world and watching, up close, which formulas earned repeat buyers and which were all packaging. Michelle Kim folded that hard-won pattern recognition into a single conviction: shoppers were paying for long, padded ingredient decks that did little, when a generous dose of one proven botanical would do more. She had started in cosmetics around 2012 and spent years refining that thesis before the line as people now know it took shape.
The philosophy she describes is almost austere. Releasing only two or three products a year, the brand resists the trend-chasing churn that drives most of the category, and Kim is blunt that results demand patience, telling interviewers that visible improvement in dryness or breakouts typically takes three to four months of steady use. That is an unusual thing for a skincare company to admit out loud, and it doubles as a quiet rebuke to the overnight-miracle marketing all around it.
The catalog organizes itself by botanical rather than by concern, and the formulations make the hero ingredient unmistakable: a snail-mucin serum built to roughly seventy percent extract, a tea-tree serum in the high sixties, beta-glucan for hydration, propolis for glow, rose galactomyces for recovery. The packaging is deliberately plain, no loud colors, no gimmicks, a visual argument that the contents are the only thing worth looking at.
The market context matters here. Minimalist, single-active K-beauty is now a crowded shelf, but this brand reached it early and on a clear principle: faithful to the basics, honest on ingredients, honest on price. The fair caveat is that a high percentage is a starting point, not a guarantee, formulation, stability, and pH decide whether a number on the box becomes a benefit on the skin. On that front the brand's track record of quietly selling out suggests it gets the execution right more often than not.

More about IUNIK
Founded in the mid-2010s by Michelle Kim, IUNIK is an affordable minimalist K-beauty brand built on high concentrations of single hero botanicals; its formulas are EWG-green and hypoallergenic, but efficacy rests on ingredient rationale rather than independent published clinical studies, and some signature actives such as snail mucin have limited clinical evidence.
