Sanghyun Kim had a specific irritation in mind when he set up his company: the parade of dramatic before-and-after clips flooding Korean social channels around 2015, each one promising a transformation no jar of cream could plausibly deliver. He read that genre as a kind of collective lie, and his response was to build a label that would rather under-promise than perform a miracle on camera. The throughline ever since has been a refusal of theatrics, expressed in packaging so plain it could pass for office supplies.
That ethos translated into a catalogue organized around suitability rather than spectacle. The cleansers, in particular, were reportedly developed over a long stretch of trial-and-error aimed at one goal: stripping out the elements that sting reactive complexions while keeping the wash effective. The label also leans on a Jericho rose, a desert resurrection plant that desiccates and revives, framed as a humectant story about limiting water loss.
The product that genuinely carried the name outward, though, was textural. The Gummy Sheet Mask pairs a thin, clingy microfiber sheet with an almost creamy, essence-heavy serum, and it spawned a small family of variants (madecassoside, vitamin, milk) sold one sticker at a time. A black brick facial soap, mild-acidic pH masks, and spot pads filled out the line, and much of it first reached shoppers not through prestige counters but on the unglamorous shelves of Daiso, where the stationery-grade aesthetic looked right at home.
The brand has signaled appetite to push past its soothing-basics comfort zone, with stated plans around UV and blue-light protection and dedicated blackhead and pore care. What it does not pretend to offer is proprietary science: the calming actives it favors are widely shared across the category, and the appeal is execution and restraint rather than a molecule no one else has.

More about Abib
Launched in South Korea in 2016, Abib is a K-beauty brand built on minimal formulas and well-known soothing botanicals such as heartleaf; its reputation rests on consumer reviews and Korean beauty-award recognition rather than a deep body of independent clinical studies.
