There is a kind of confidence in releasing a skincare product whose entire ingredient list fits on a sticky note. While most essences pile up twenty, thirty, sometimes forty ingredients, the product that made this brand famous gets by on roughly seven — water, a couple of humectants, and a quartet of fermented extracts, and nothing else. No fragrance, no alcohol, no preservative cocktail. The bet was that shoppers had grown tired of guessing which of forty ingredients had broken them out, and it paid off.
The brand launched in 2020 in Seoul, the project of a Korean content creator known for an almost austere approach to skincare. The founding idea was simple and unusually disciplined: build each formula around a single hero ingredient at high concentration, name the product after that ingredient, and strip away everything that does not earn its place. The name itself folds together “mix” and the Korean “soon” (純), meaning purity — a blend of purity, as the brand likes to put it.
The hero is the Bean Essence, a honey-textured serum built on fermented soybean extract, joined by barley, pomegranate, and Korean pear ferments. Ingredients are extracted at low temperatures using a high-frequency method rather than heat, the idea being to keep the plant actives intact, and they are sourced domestically. The essence went viral across K-beauty communities as a vegan answer to the snail-mucin essences everyone was layering for glass skin, and the brand leaned into a wider line of single-ingredient toners, creams, and glacier-water serums.
The honest read: minimalism is genuinely the right call for reactive, sensitive, and barrier-compromised skin, where every extra ingredient is one more thing to react to, and a seven-ingredient essence is about as low-risk as skincare gets. What it is not is a miracle — fermented soy is a pleasant, lightly hydrating and soothing active, not a transformative one. You are buying calm, hydration, and the rare luxury of knowing exactly what is on your face. For a young brand, that clarity is the product.

More about mixsoon
Founded in 2020 in Seoul; a minimalist, vegan K-beauty brand built on single-ingredient, fermentation-based formulas. Its products are widely sold and reviewed, but the brand is young and carries little independent clinical validation.
