It started in a swimming pool. Anisha Saraf was a competitive swimmer whose skin took a beating from chlorine and harsh sun, and when she hunted for products to undo the damage, the Indian market of the mid-2010s simply didn't carry anything that worked the way she wanted. That gap, felt on her own face, became the brief for a brand.
She was unusually equipped to fill it. Anisha studied chemistry before completing a master's in food technology, training that taught her to read ingredient lists and formulation safety the way most founders never learn to, and she had grown up inside her family's mass-market cosmetics business, Joy. Her husband ran the numbers; she ran the lab side. Operating out of Kolkata rather than a Mumbai or Bengaluru startup hub, the pair leaned into formats and concerns that mainstream Indian shelves underserved, building serums, sleeping masks, and toners around playful, fruit-forward storytelling that made actives feel approachable to first-time users.
The approach was speed-and-scale from the start: rapid product drops, heavy direct-to-consumer selling, and packaging engineered to pop on a phone screen. Sunscreens became a signature, pitched at the daily-wear, no-white-cast experience Indian buyers had long complained was missing, and the catalog widened into vitamin C, niacinamide, and barrier repair as the category matured around it. Revenue compounded aggressively year over year as the formula clicked.
The candid caveat is that breadth and marketing flair outpace clinical depth here. A catalog this wide will vary in quality SKU to SKU, and the wellness-coded language deserves a skeptical read rather than a literal one. But the brand's real achievement is spotting genuine local demand, for affordable, format-smart actives tuned to Indian skin and climate, before larger players moved. Judge the individual formula on its ingredient list, and several hold up well for the price.
