The story behind By Wishtrend Read the full story

Almost every skincare label starts with a formula and then chases an audience. This one inverted the order. Its parent, Seoul-based Wishcompany, was established in 2010 and first made its name not as a manufacturer but as a storyteller: the Wishtrend platform and its Wishtrend TV YouTube channel spent years explaining Korean skincare to a global audience, eventually crossing seven million subscribers and earning a YouTube Gold Play Button. The line emerged only after that audience kept voicing the same gripe, that it couldn't find genuinely high-functioning actives, so the company mined feedback from hundreds of thousands of its own customers before building products to answer it. The brand sits alongside the older, gentler Dear, Klairs in the same house.

The defining choice was radical legibility. Where most of the category hides behind vague "brightening complexes," this label prints the exact percentage of its hero active into the product name itself, a transparency that reads almost like a dare. The breakout was a high-strength L-ascorbic acid serum that became a cult object among ingredient-literate users, followed by acid prep waters, an enzyme powder wash, and newer launches built around propolis and a retinal-plus-bakuchiol pairing.

That honesty cuts both ways, which is the part worth flagging. A potent vitamin C serum at that strength can sting sensitive skin and oxidizes relatively quickly once opened, and stacking high concentrations is not automatically better than a thoughtfully buffered lower dose. Because nothing here is quietly diluted to play it safe, patch-testing and a slow ramp-up matter more with this line than with gentler ranges. For an experienced user it's strong value and refreshingly straight-talking; for a beginner, the "more is more" framing the labels encourage can become a liability if taken as a promise rather than information.

Quad Active Boosting Essence

A first-step prep essence that names four botanical actives at honest percentages on the front of the bottle and actually delivers them on the back. Willow bark at 10%, cornflower water at 9%, schisandra at 9%, and mulberry plus lotus at nearly 18% combined — almost no other essence at this price point comes close to this density.

By Wishtrend serum

Polyphenols In Propolis 15% Ampoule

A 15% propolis ampoule that earns its name with a real polyphenol stack — French Auvergne propolis layered over a houttuynia cordata base, with tulsi and pomegranate piling on. It's slightly sticky and not cheap by volume, but for sensitive, breakout-prone skin chasing calm, this is one of the most reliable K-beauty soothers in production.

By Wishtrend sunscreen

UV Defense Moist Cream SPF 50+

A genuinely modern broad-spectrum sunscreen that runs three of the best UVA filters in the world simultaneously — Uvinul A Plus, Tinosorb S, and Mexoryl SX — in a moisturizing cream base that doubles as a daytime moisturizer. The white cast and the fungal-acne incompatibility limit its audience, but for normal-to-dry skin in the US frustrated by the FDA's old filter list, this is a serious upgrade.

Vitamin 75 Maximizing Cream

The cream half of By Wishtrend's vitamin C system: 75% sea buckthorn 'vitamin tree' water replaces the entire water phase, the same base as the brand's flagship 21.5% serum. It pairs beautifully with the serum and delivers a real glow over weeks of use, but lemon peel oil and fungal-acne incompatibility limit its audience.

By Wishtrend serum

Cera-Barrier Soothing Ampoule

A genuinely rare five-ceramide ampoule that puts most K-beauty barrier serums to shame on ingredient density. By Wishtrend built this with the full lipid matrix — ceramides, cholesterol, phytosphingosine, niacinamide — and it shows in performance on compromised skin. Price is the main friction point for casual users.

By Wishtrend moisturizer

Pro-Biome Balance Cream

A featherweight gel-cream that puts 70% Lactobacillus ferment lysate in the position other moisturizers reserve for water, then stacks 10% propolis and three more postbiotic ferments on top. It's not enough cream for very dry skin, but for combination, sensitive and reactive types chasing a calm barrier, it's one of the more ingredient-honest microbiome moisturizers in production.

Propolis Energy Calming Ampoule

The lighter, less sticky sibling to By Wishtrend's flagship 15% propolis ampoule — same French Auvergne propolis sourcing, same polyphenol-stack logic, but tuned for daily calming on reactive skin rather than treatment-intensity work. For users who found the 15% too tacky or too much, this is the version that finally fits.

Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water

The mandelic acid prep water that quietly converted half of K-beauty Reddit away from glycolic — and for good reason. It delivers visible texture and PIH improvement at 5% without the sting or pigment risk that derails sensitive and darker skin, and it does so for around twenty bucks.

By Wishtrend serum

Pure Vitamin C 21.5% Advanced Serum

One of the highest stable L-ascorbic acid concentrations on the consumer market, in a sea buckthorn water base with just nine other ingredients. It stings on application, oxidizes if you don't use it within three months, and excludes sensitive skin entirely — and within those constraints, it is one of the most effective vitamin C serums you can buy under forty dollars.

Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash

A powder cleanser that leads with actual ground green tea and pairs papain with bromelain, so the post-wash smoothness arrives on day one, not after a month of hopeful use. It is priced like a treatment, but the formula earns it for oily-to-combination skin chasing refined texture without stripping.

Mandelic Acid Gentle Exfoliating Toner

A long-trusted, genuinely gentle exfoliating toner built on 5% mandelic acid — the mildest AHA — and buffered by centella, beta-glucan, panthenol and licorice. It refines texture and tone with unusually low irritation, making it one of the best acid exfoliants for sensitive skin, beginners and deeper skin tones. Effective, if gradual.

By Wishtrend moisturizer

Vitamin A-mazing Bakuchiol Night Cream

A hybrid night cream that pairs retinal with bakuchiol in the same formula — the rare K-beauty product willing to put a real retinoid and the leading plant alternative in one tube and let them work together. The supporting cast of niacinamide, ceramides, peptides and centella keeps it tolerable for nightly use, and the texture-smoothing results show up faster than most bakuchiol-alone creams.

Bakuchiol Body Lotion

A genuinely treatment-grade body lotion that brings face-level actives — retinal, bakuchiol, glycolic, lactic and salicylic acids, urea and niacinamide — to the body, purpose-built for keratosis pilaris and rough, crepey skin. It works, with patience. The stacked retinoid and acids make it potent, not gentle, and it is off-limits in pregnancy.
