Sun Damage Treatment

The use of proper sun protection including daily use of sunscreen is essential in preventing or reducing the risk of developing skin cancer or other skin conditions; caused by over exposure to the dangerous UV rays. Wearing wraparound sunglasses and hats when outdoors is also helpful in warning off harmful UV rays.

Over-the-counter products containing alpha-hydroxy acids such as glycolic acid or lactic acid may have a smoothing effect on the skin. A doctor may prescribe tretinoin, which has shown to reverse some of the sign of sun damage. Chemical peels are also used to remove damaged areas of the skin allowing the recovery and regrowth of healthy layers of the skin.
