What Is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a long-lasting and recurring skin condition involving inflammation of the cheeks, nose, chin, forehead or eyelids. It often appears as redness, small dilated blood vessels, flushing and skin eruptions similar to acne.

The exact cause of this condition is unknown but flareups can be triggered by a variety of factors including sun exposure, stress, hot weather, alcohol, exercise and spicy foods. It kind of varies from person to person. People that are fair skinned and blushed easily or most commonly affected. Long-standing rosacea of the nose results in proliferation of sebaceous glands resulting in a bulbous appearance of the nose called rhinophyma.
