What Causes Oily Skin?

Oily skin is a common condition that occurs when the sebaceous glands, which are of glands that create grease on your hair become overactive and produce excess oil in the skin. Typically people notice it most in the face and most commonly in the t-zone,  the forehead and mid face.

Oily skin may be caused by a variety of factors including heredity, pregnancy or weather. An increase in testosterone levels during puberty is one of the main causes of oily skin for teenagers. While oily skin may be more prone to acne and blemishes a benefit of oily skin is that it may have a younger appearance than other skin types.

In the majority of cases oily skin can be managed with proper skin care. See our treatment video for more information.
