What Is Melasma?

Melasma is a skin condition primarily of women that appears irregularly shaped light to dark brown patches on the face. It commonly appears on the forehead, temples, cheeks, chin and upper lip. Women who have darker complexions or that are pregnant are the most commonly affected by this condition.

Melasma is primarily caused by overexposure to the sun, however hormonal changes and genetics also play role. Melasma can sometimes be prevented with proper sun protection and skin care. See our treatment video for more information.
