What Causes Hair Loss?

Hair loss is a common often distressing condition that affects many men. There are many kinds of hair loss, the most common is male pattern hair loss or male pattern baldness in which the hair on the scalp gradually and inevitably thins with age in a predicted pattern. On set can begin early even in a person’s 20s or delayed to someone’s 40s.

Male pattern baldness is hereditary and associated with male hormones called androgens and specifically with testosterone. Sudden or extreme hair loss may be brought on by medications or an underlying medical condition. Certain conditions such as alopecia areata result in well-defined patches of hair loss due the body’s immune system attacking the hair roots.
