Dr. Dover graduated as the silver medalist, magna cum laude with an M. D. degree from the University of Ottawa. His dermatology training was received at the University of Toronto followed by research fellowships at St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin at the University of London in London, England, and a two-year photo medicine fellowship at the Beth Israel Hospital and the Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Dover is a former Associate Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School, was Chief of Dermatology at the New England Deaconess Hospital for over ten years and also Associate Chairman of Dermatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He is Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology, at Yale University School of Medicine, and Adjunct Professor of Medicine (Dermatology) at Dartmouth Medical School. A dermatologist in Boston and director of Skin Care Physicians, Dr. Dover’s research interests are lasers in medicine, cosmetic surgery and medical education.

Dr. Dover is the author of over 350 scientific publications. He has co-authored and edited 41 textbooks. Six of these books are on cutaneous laser surgery and cosmetic surgery: Illustrated Cutaneous Laser Surgery: A Practitioner’s Guide with Dr. Arndt, and co-authors, Controversies and Conversations in Cutaneous Laser Surgery with Dr. Arndt, and Atlas of Cosmetic Surgery with Drs. Kaminer and Arndt as well as Photoaging; four other textbooks; two on general dermatology: Pocket Guide to Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery, Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery: Self-Assessment and Review both with Dr. Arndt, and three for lay individuals; the Youth Equation, Skin Deep: An A-Z of Skin Disorders, Treatments and Health, and the Encyclopedia of Skin and Skin Disorders. Dr. Dover is editor of the 14 book series, Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology. He is founding editor of Journal Watch for Dermatology, produced by the publishers of the New England Journal of Medicine.

Dr. Dover is immediate past president of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, and Vice President of the American Society of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery. He is past president of the New England Dermatological Society and organizes and directs numerous medical conferences, including the annual Controversies in Cutaneous Laser and Cosmetic Surgery Symposium along with Dr. Arndt.

Dr. Dover, creator of Skin Effects, the skin care line available at CVS Pharmacy nationwide, has received many honors including repeated nominations for “teacher of the year” at Harvard Medical School. He is listed as one of the best cosmetic surgeons in the U.S. by Town & Country and among the top dermatologists in multiple editions of Boston Magazine, The Improper Bostonian, Who’s Who of American Medicine, Guide to Top Doctors, and The Best Doctors in America. Dr. Dover, President Elect of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, received the prestigious Leon Goldman Award as well as the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery’s Ellet Drake Award and was honored for his work in laser surgery by the Sturge Weber Foundation at its twentieth Annual Gala.
