What is combination skin?

Combination skin is very common, and refers to people who have dry skin in some areas, while they have oily skin in others. In some way, everyone has combination skin as the T-zone starting with the forehead down to the lower nose are oilier for everyone as there are more sebaceous glands present. People with combination skin type have more variability in their skin, which can sometimes present unique challenges.

There is a lot of overlap between people with normal skin type and those with combination skin. Generally, the range of skincare products that you can use will be similarly wide. People with combination skin may sometimes need to use different products for different areas of the skin–for example, by applying thick moisturizers only on the dry patches while using a gentler product for other parts.

What skincare products should I be looking for to manage combination skin?

The basics of skincare remain the same for all skin types: cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection. A person with combination skin may need to use products designed for dry skin or oily skin at times depending on the area that is being treated.
