Roopal V. Kundu, MD, Associate Professor of Dermatology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, shared her daily skincare routine with us. Find out what she recommends:
“My routine is not very complicated. I’m very simple.”
– Dr. Kundu
Morning
1. “In the morning I wash my face with water.”
2. “I put a moisturizer with SPF on my face, my neck, my ears, my hands, my nails. I’m a firm believer in that – for anti-aging potential as much as cancer prevention. I recommend a daily moisturizer with SPF. If there’s SPF is in your moisturizer it’s a two-in-one process.”
Nighttime
1. “If I don’t have makeup on I’ll just wash my face with water. If I do have makeup on, I’ll wash with a cleanser or a makeup wash.”
2. “When it comes to anti-aging or cosmetic things you can get over the counter, I recommend retinol or prescription retinoids. Use at nighttime as a part of your bedtime routine, at least initially. I don’t necessarily use those things myself, but that’s what I recommend.”
3. “Alpha hydroxy acids and glycolic acids are great, really mild exfoliants that can be used once or twice a week. They lift off some of the dead layers of skin, which gives the skin a glow.”
4. “Another thing — and I don’t necessarily recommend this, per se, but many of my patients use them and I don’t have a major problem with it: Clarisonic systems, or any of those mild exfoliating brushes. My biggest thing is I don’t like people using them everyday, I prefer them to be used weekly.”
