Vitamin B (Nicotinamide and Niacinamide) are jumping out of the vitamin jar and into the cosmetics industry. Nicotinamide has anti-inflammatory properties, which help treat acne, rosacea and any blistering types of skin conditions. In acne, it reduces oiliness as well as inflammation – a cause and effect of acne. Nicotinamide is also carving out new territory in anti-aging products because it has been shown to improve the skin’s ability to retain moisture which in turn delivers smoother skin and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines. It also holds promise in preventing skin cancer but clinical tests on humans may be many years out. Niacinamide, another byproduct of vitamin B, serves as an effective skin-lightening agent. As much as topical treatments hold promise for skin care, you can always look for vitamin-B rich foods in your supermarket. Potatoes, spinach and asparagus are just of few of the foods providing rich helpings of vitamin B into our daily diet.
