Orthosiphon stamineus (Cat’s whiskers) is a traditional herb that is common in tropical areas and is used to treat diabetes, kidney and urinary disorders, high blood pressure and bone or muscular pain. It has only recently also begun to be used in skin treatments to reduce oiliness and the resulting shiny appearance. Although climate factors such as temperature and humidity as well as diet have a strong effect on the oily appearance of the skin, new research shows that an extract from the leaves can be applied to help reduce sebum production in the skin which will reduce shine and shrink pore size.
